I would like to add my voice to those nominating Seth Finkelstein for the Pioneer award.

In 1997 I published an article called The X-Stop Files which proved to be very influential in the censorware debate. In that article, which can be found at http://www.spectacle.org/cs/xstop.html , I revealed that XStop blocked a Quaker website, the American Association of University Women, the AIDS Quilt website and much other socially useful material. The research for this article was all done anonymously by Seth Finkelstein; he did all the work and I got the glory for writing it up.

That was only the beginning; Seth did tireless and brilliant work after that to determine what censorware products really blocked. Seth is one of the heroes of Internet free speech; one of those rare people who do the work despite the fact that they know they will receive no credit.

Seth's phone number is [SF: redacted]. I can be reached daytimes at [SF: redacted].
